May 30, 2014

Vice President for Equity and Diversity Katrice Albert released the following statement on the death of Dr. Frank Snowden, a University of Minnesota professor.

"The University of Minnesota and Twin Cities communities lost a great ambassador with the passing of Dr. Frank Snowden. He was a true asset to our community of scholars, to our students and to higher education in the State of Minnesota.

"Dr. Snowden was a national treasure. His dedication for increasing diversity here at the U and across the country was most noteworthy. As a professor of chemical engineering and materials science, his efforts to grow the number of well-credentialed students of color in STEM fields and recruit and mentor top-flight junior faculty of color were exemplary.

"He made a significant impact on each of the lives he touched. His warmth and generous spirit was a joy to be around. Through his example of visionary leadership and service, Dr. Snowden leaves behind a legacy of great character and integrity. He will be sorely missed."
