July 1, 2014

Jim du Bois, president and chief executive officer of Minnesota Broadcasters Association, has been elected chair of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association’s Board of Directors for 2014-15. He is the 78th chair in the organization’s 110-year history.

“It’s an honor to be asked to serve the Association and help deliver on its mission of being an effective, relevant, independent alumni association,” said du Bois (B.A. '87). “Ours is a great University, with distinguished alumni from all walks of life, from all parts of the world, all sharing a common experience. As Chair, I’ll continue to support the work and continued evolution of the Alumni Association’s work.”

He officially assumes his role today, July 1. Outgoing board chair Susan Adams Loyd (B.A. '81) presented du Bois with the gavel at the Alumni Association’s Annual Celebration on April 26.

“I look forward to working with Jim to ensure that the Association remains relevant in the lives of our 445,000 alumni,” said Lisa Lewis, Alumni Association president and CEO. “His extensive background and talent for sharing stories — especially those tied to his alma mater — will benefit us greatly as we work to engage alumni, support student success and strengthen the University.”

du Bois is a veteran broadcaster and has held a variety of positions in radio programming, news and management. In addition to his role at Minnesota Broadcasters Association, he hosts Access Minnesota, a public affairs radio and TV show that airs throughout Minnesota. A devout supporter of the University of Minnesota, he received the Alumni Association’s National Volunteer of the Year Award in 2005, was named a College of Liberal Arts Alumnus of Distinction in 2006 and received the University’s Alumni Service Award in 2011. He has served on the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors since 2004.

In addition to existing board members, newly elected board members include: Wendy Williams Blackshaw, Douglas Huebsch, Laura Moret and Roshini Rajkumar.
